LESTER
By
Michael Edwin Q.

Let me tell you about my friend, Lester
He was as thick as a brick and as dumb as dirt
As dim-witted as a bag of hammers and skinny as a bean pole
Tall as a tree and as wide as a barn door
Bald as an eagle and his head shined like a new dime
Blind as a bat and deaf as a fence post
He had a pig nose and fish lips
And a smile as big as all outdoors
With his elephant ears and turkey neck
His willowy arms with muscles as strong as iron bands
He had a sunken chest and a belly like a bowlful of jelly
He was hung like a horse
Had bow legs, duck feet, and pigeon toes
Sly as a fox and slippery as an eel
Quiet as a mouse, but loud as a brass band
Worthless as teats on a boar and faithful as an ole hound dog
And as predictable as the weather
He smelled like a skunk and laughed like a hyena
Cried like a baby and smiled like an idiot
He slept like a log and worked like a dog
Gentle as a lamb, brave as a lion, strong as a bull
And he was as good as gold
Lester was a friend of mine
But now he’s gone like the wind and deader than a doornail
